Lu Quan: Experience Report on the Application and Review of National Social Science Foundation Projects

At 15:00 on December 26, 2025, the lecture on "Experience Report on the Application and Review of National Social Science Foundation Projects" sponsored by our school was successfully held in Room E515 of the Mechanical and Electrical Building. Professor Lu Quan from Wuhan University was specially invited to be the keynote speaker. The lecture carried out professional guidance and in-depth exchanges around the core points and review experience of the application for National Social Science Foundation Projects, and more than 30 teachers and students from the Department of Information Management of our school attended this academic activity.

Professor Lu Quan first interpreted the application policies and review procedures of the National Social Science Foundation Projects in detail, helping applicants understand the latest policy changes and review standards; secondly, based on personal review experience and expert tasks, Professor Lu pointed out that it is necessary to understand the psychology of experts for topic selection. When experts face dozens of topics with increasingly limited time, the decisive factor of topic selection lies in being novel, unambiguous, with important and clear problems and appropriate scope. At the same time, it should conform to national needs and focus on social hot and difficult issues; thirdly, in terms of demonstration, Professor Lu believed that it needs to be clear, necessary, complete and focused, avoid only talking about the importance while ignoring scientific problems, accurately and clearly define the connotation and connection of core terms, avoid listing literatures, and make a review in accordance with the academic development context to ensure the integrity and correspondence of research content, identify and clarify the difficulties, and reflect the research value of the project. Finally, he analyzed the common misunderstandings and problems in the application process through specific cases and provided targeted solutions.

In the interactive session, Professor Lu Quan analyzed the core issue of "how to improve the success rate of the National Social Science Foundation Projects". He pointed out that in the application for National Social Science Foundation Projects, targeted topic selection should be prepared for different tracks; the application content needs to be refined with great care, polished repeatedly, consulted more and reported more to ensure that every dimension of the content is free from problems, because successful proposals are always similar, while failed ones have their own reasons; finally, it is necessary to maintain a normal mind, constantly consolidate the foundation, adjust the mentality, and perseverance prevails.

This lecture systematically explained the National Social Science Foundation from the perspectives of application and review and shared practical experience. The teachers and students present all said they benefited a lot, gained experience and broadened their horizons, and also provided practical and feasible guiding ideas for the application of National Social Science Foundation Projects and disciplinary construction of our school.
